Announcing… Ontario 150 Testkits!

Canada’s heritage was shaped by wilderness, but most people don’t actively notice it in the bustle of everyday modern life.

Through this testkit program, we are teaching new and existing water stewards about water quality and then they will go out and be in nature. By visiting these same spots monthly, they will begin to appreciate the rhythms of our natural world. Through that, we hope you will want to protect these spaces, organize clean-ups and work to keep areas natural!

We are excited to get these testkits out in the world, train more water stewards, and have lots of fun! If you have any questions or comments, please contact us.

How you can participate

We are encouraging those from Ontario to apply as soon as possible so we can begin making arrangements for testing season. You’ll need to apply by March 13!

Why Citizen science matters

Citizens have a role in helping monitor waterbodies because it’s too big of a job for scientists to do on their own.

Not from Ontario?

While this is a project for Ontario residents, we are hoping to have one in other regions soon. We will be looking at setting up more opportunities to borrow testkits. You can also:

Our goals

Our Ontario150 project aims to monitor 150 locations in 2017 to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, and we will be encouraging groups to become more aware and observant to the natural places around them.

Thanks to Ontario150!

These testkits were funded by Ontario 150, as part of Canada’s birthday. Thank you so much for helping us make this happen!
