Looking for French educators in Ontario to engage youth in water citizen science
Update: Water Rangers received this grant and has resources for French educators. For the most up to date information on this project, click here.
Water Rangers is looking for French educators in Ontario to be included in a project proposal for the Francophone Community Grants Program (Government of Ontario). We’ve been working with educators across Ontario to develop a curriculum that focuses on water stewardship, citizen science and water quality testing. We’re translating the curriculum to make sure that French Ontarians also have access to these resources!
About the project
Canada is known for its many water bodies: from the smallest creek to the Great Lakes, may Canadians have grown up with water close to them. With such a vast territory and a population concentrated in the south, it can make it hard to collect quality data. That’s why Water Rangers believes in empowering citizens to learn about water stewardship and equipping them with testkits to collect data.
Through an NSERC Promo Science grant, we’ve developed a curriculum to help educators, from teachers to youth program leaders, teach about water stewardship and have access to water testkits. We’ve worked closely with the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) to develop a youth leadership program using our testkits. This new project will allow us to provide the same opportunities to French-speaking educators and youth in Eastern Ontario. The project would run from October to March. We’ll emphasize online resources in the fall and plan for in person teaching in the new year if the situation allows it.
