Community Trainer – Bilingual (Montreal)
Rate: $15.50/hour
Time: 35 hours/week for 12 weeks, from Mid-May to Mid-August
We’re looking for a fluently bilingual outgoing, passionate summer student who loves teaching people, especially about science! The community-based trainer will coordinate and present educational webinars and events, attend fairs and other Montreal-based activities (in compliance with COVID restrictions) to teach Canadians how to monitor water quality. You will translate and communicate complex scientific information into digestible lessons for the general public and will have to deliver these lessons both in-person and online. You should have strong written skills, especially in French, to support our team in ensuring all content is fluently bilingual. You will also be responsible for gathering feedback from supervisors, teachers, and participants.
Expect to spend 50% of your time supporting our team while working from home and 50% of your time supporting our community. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Days off in lieu will be awarded. Social media, photography, and blogging are great additional skills. A valid drivers license and access to a vehicle would be a huge asset (and compensated at $0.58/km).

Formateur communautaire – Bilingue (Montréal)

On recherche un stagiaire d’été extraverti, passionné et parfaitement bilingue qui aime enseigner aux gens, en particulier les sciences! Le formateur communautaire coordonnera et présentera des webinaires et des événements éducatifs, assistera à des foires et à d’autres activités à Montréal (conformément aux restrictions COVID) pour enseigner aux Canadiens comment surveiller la qualité de l’eau. Tu traduiras et communiqueras des informations scientifiques complexes en leçons digestibles pour le grand public et devras présenter ces leçons en personne et en ligne. Tu dois avoir de solides compétences en rédaction, en particulier en français, pour aider notre équipe à s’assurer que tout le contenu est parfaitement bilingue. Tu seras également responsable de recueillir les commentaires des superviseurs, des enseignants et des participants.
Attends-toi à passer 50 % de ton temps à soutenir notre équipe tout en travaillant à domicile et 50 % de ton temps à soutenir notre communauté. Certains travaux de soir et de fin de semaine peuvent être requis. Des jours de congés compensatoire seront accordés. Avec de l’expérience avec les médias sociaux, la photographie et les blogs sont d’excellentes compétences supplémentaires. Un permis de conduire valide et l’accès à un véhicule seraient un énorme atout (et compensé à 0,58 $/km).

Graphic Design & Marketing Intern (Anywhere in Canada)
Rate: $15.50/hour
Time: 35 hours/week for 12 weeks, from Mid-May to Mid-August
As our in-house graphic designer, you will continue in our tradition of strong, high-quality graphics! You will work with the rest of the Water Rangers team to communicate ideas and information on our website and in our supporting materials. Working under the guidance of a professional designer, the employee will be in charge of developing the overall layout and design for materials such as guides and impact reports (using programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Sketch, and Canva).
You will also be required to create infographics and promotional materials for print and digital applications. Finally, you will be required to liaise with other team members to help ensure that our social media and blog posts are visually appealing and effective! For this position, please provide some examples of your digital work.
Data Analytics Assistant / Junior Web Developer (Anywhere in Canada)
Rate: $20/hour
Time: 35 hours/week for 12 weeks, from Mid-May to Mid-August
Under the guidance of our tech team, the employee will develop tools for data analytics and tools that support our administrative efforts. They will be required to work as part of a team to bring new concepts to life, resulting in the development of strong teamwork and communication skills. They will be expected to use their digital skills to create tools that enhance interaction with our site in any browser. Depending on your skills, you can work on coding our websites (PHP, Ruby-on-Rails, etc.). Finally, working with a team of other developers, you will test our website for usability and fix any bugs.
Store Assistant (Ottawa – Val-des-Monts location)
Rate: $15.50/hour
Time: 35 hours/week for 12 weeks, from Mid-May to Mid-August
The Store Assistant will be in charge of assembling water testing kits, organizing supplies at our warehouse in Val-des-Monts, and bringing parcels to the post office. Working with the Store Coordinators, you will also be responsible for delegating store-related tasks to other team members when possible (tasks that can be done remotely). They will help to track inventory online and ask for supplies to be ordered when stock levels reach a certain threshold.
You will be encouraged to maintain strong relationships with store customers and provide excellent customer service. Experience with online retail and strong communication skills are desired. You must be able to travel to Val-des-Monts and work on location 4 of 5 days per week for this position, with the remaining day at home. It is a 35-minute drive from downtown Ottawa.
Eligibility
Due to funder requirements, to be eligible, youth must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
