Winter Rangers – volunteer recruitment

Join the Effort to Protect Lake Erie: Become a Winter Ranger with Water Rangers!

Are you concerned about the impact of road salt on our environment? Each winter, tons of salt are spread on our roads to keep us safe. However, this salt eventually makes its way into our rivers, streams, and lakes, including Lake Erie, where it can harm aquatic life, impact drinking water, and disrupt local ecosystems.

Water Rangers is recruiting volunteers in the Lake Erie watershed to help monitor salt levels in local waterways throughout the winter. By joining the Winter Road Salt Monitoring Program, you’ll play a crucial role in tracking salt pollution and providing essential data to help reduce environmental impacts.

How You Can Help

As a volunteer, you’ll monitor salt levels in specific locations around Lake Erie. We’ll send you Water Rangers’ new Winter testkit so you can measure chloride levels and contribute your findings to a growing database of information. This data is critical for identifying areas with high salt pollution and advocating for sustainable solutions.
