How to access data

Looking to use Water Rangers data? Visit our data platform to explore data, view trends and download observations for a dataset or a specific location.

For data explorers

Anyone can share and use the data on our platform! No account is required to access the data.

Download a dataset

Go to our data platform (data.waterrangers.com) and browse datasets using the map or search by name.

  1. Open a dataset and scroll to the Data sharing section
  2. Click “Download dataset.”
  3. Before downloading, you’ll be asked to tell us a bit about how you’ll use the data
    • This helps data collectors understand the impact of their work!
  4. Data can be downloaded in two formats, both as CSV’s
    • Standard format: each row is a single reading (best for analysis and coding)
    • Simple table: each row is a single observation (best for quick viewing and visualization)

Your data will arrive in your inbox shortly (usually a few minutes)! The email will also include metadata for the dataset.

Download data for a location

While exploring the map, you can download data for a specific location of interest.

  1. Open the location page from the map
  2. Scroll to the Data sharing section
  3. Click “Download location data”
  4. Provide a few details about how you’ll use the data

For dataset administrators

Download a subset of data by location or dates

Data admins can download a subset of data using the Data check (QA) dashboard.

This feature allows you to filter and export only the data you need!

You can:

  • Filter data by QA status.
  • Narrow results by date range or location.
  • Export the filtered results as a CSV file

This brings back a much-requested feature from the previous platform!

Data requests

If you need a specific subset of data, or data across multiple datasets, you can submit a data request.

Fill out our simple data request form and our team will review it and prepare the data for you.

This option is best for complex requests that can’t be downloaded directly from the platform.
