E. coli Testkit (UK)

This testkit allows you to test for E. coli without bringing samples to a lab. It’s accurate enough to help you understand if there are issues, but it is not sensitive enough to determine official swimming standards. We recommend this method to help uncover issues related to spills, leaks, and run-off and their effects and for helping people understand whether or not their bathings sites have met the recreational water quality guidelines set by officials to protect their health while swimming.

Choose the 1mL R.Cards for higher concentrations of E.coli.  If you expect to find higher E. Coli counts ie. above 500 cfu/100mL. The 1mL R.Cards show results at 100cfu/100mL and higher, and are meant for site with higher quantities of E.coli.

Choose 3mL R.Cards for lower concentrations of E.coli. The 3mL R.Cards are a more sensitive card – they show results starting at 33cfu/100ml and higher. This card is meant for sites with lower levels of E.coli.

*Please note that the 3mL cards are less absorbent and therefore care needs to be taken when dispensing the 3mL of water to avoid spillage.

Incubator

You will need an incubator and you can source one yourself. For your convenience, we have sourced egg incubators that you can use and adjust to 35°C to incubate your E. coli tests (up to 12 cards at a time).
