Interpreting results
While these results can’t tell you for certain that there are no risks, they can signal many instances of high sulphates. Use this as a ‘first test’ to know when further action and testing might be necessary. Rule of thumb: if conductivity is more than 2.0 mS/cm, or you see a big increase in a small length of time (e.g., if your conductivity reading increases from 1.3 mS/cm to 1.9 mS/cm in less than 2 weeks), proceed with caution!
What to do
Keep livestock out of your dugout. If you’re in Saskatchewn, you can also contact the Ministry of Agriculture (Extension Specialists). Call the Agriculture Knowledge Centre at 1-866-457-2377, and they will connect you with the right specialist.
